The Story Behind Hippie Chicken Farm & the Seasons That Guide Us
Welcome — We’re so glad you’re here. Hippie Chicken Farm began the same way many meaningful things do: slowly, organically, and with a deep listening to what felt right. What started as a love for growing things soon grew into a desire to share that joy with others — to pass along the beauty, lessons, and simple magic that comes from working with the earth and from growing dahlias on a small, seasonal flower farm. Over time, that passion became a way of life rooted in intention, patience, and trust in nature’s timing. The name Hippie Chicken Farm reflects the spirit behind everything we do. To us, “hippie” isn’t about a look or a trend — it’s about living in harmony with the earth, choosing simplicity, and honoring the natural rhythms that support life. It’s about doing things with heart, even when that means taking the longer road. Letting the Seasons Lead in Seasonal Flower Farming One of the most important lessons farming has taught us is that nature is always in charge. The seasons guide every decision we make — when to plant, when to dig, when to divide, and when to ship. We don’t rush growth, and we don’t force timelines. Dahlias, especially, remind us that beauty thrives when given the right conditions and time — a lesson we see again and again while growing dahlias from tubers each season. That’s why we wait to ship tubers until there is no longer a risk of freezing temperatures. While we understand the excitement of receiving new varieties, protecting the health and viability of each tuber matters more to us than speed. Healthy tubers mean strong plants, better blooms, and a more joyful growing season for everyone. Growing With Intention At Hippie Chicken Farm, growing flowers isn’t just about the end result — it’s about the relationship we build with the land along the way. We pay attention to the soil, the weather, and the subtle cues that tell us when it’s time to act and when it’s time to wait. This way of farming requires patience and trust, but it also brings a sense of peace and purpose. Each season carries its own energy, and we do our best to work with it rather than against it. Thank You for Being Part of Our First Season This is our first year offering dahlia tubers for sale from our small flower farm, and we’re learning as we go — growing not just flowers, but experience and wisdom too. We’re grateful for your support, your understanding, and your shared love for these incredible plants. By choosing to support a small farm, you’re choosing care over convenience, intention over urgency, and connection over mass production. We’re honored to grow alongside you. Here’s to good soil, open hearts, and letting the seasons lead. If this story resonates with you, we invite you to share it with others — friends, fellow gardeners, and anyone curious about farming, intentional living, or the joy dahlias bring into the world. By sharing, you help spread a vision rooted in care, connection, and growing together. — Hippie Chicken Farm
